Although my B.Sc. and M.Sc. were in plant and plant biotechnology area, but plant biotechnology couldn’t satisfy me, so I was changing my research area to microbial biotechnology and working for two years in petroleum (oil) biotechnology. I have been joining in Professor Nielsen’s group for about 1.5 years now. I am working on two projects in this group.
In the first project, I compared the strength of different galactose and glucose promoter to design a new bidirectional expression vector. This new vector retains all the features from the pESC-URA plasmid except that expression is mediated by constitutive promoters. My PhD project was started from July 2008. I am working on isoprenoeid production in yeast and using molecular genetics methods to transfer all steps of the bacterial MEP pathway to S. cerevisiae. Hereby there will be constructed a new strain as a cell factory for the production of isoprenoids. Finally, our aim is to achieve high production levels of different kinds of sesquiterpenes by further metabolic engineering of this strain.
Beside the different scientific researches in our group, I think Nielsen´s lab for system biology is one of the most international and productive research group in Europe that consist of more than 25 PhD and post doc from Asia to America. Finally I am so happy that I can join and work in this group. |
